The Computer Desktop

The Computer Desktop

The Computer Desktop

The computer desktop is the front side area of the computer monitor that shows small pictures, technically called icons seen when the PC is on. The Icons on the desktop represent different item stored inside the computer and or functions.

Examples of Icons we can see on the Windows desktop are My Computer, My Documents, Desktop and Recycle Bin. These Icons represent Files, Programs and Folders, and all of these Icons are labeled depending to what they are created for or the user’s preferences.

The files Icons contain the specific programs’ names to enable us differentiate “which file is created by using which program”……

The Taskbar

The taskbar is the bar seen at the bottom of the desktop (for PCs running windows OS). It shows the start button, the active windows (opened folders, files and programs), time and system’s notification Icons.

The Taskbar

The start button is where we have to click when we want to begin performing different tasks on the PCs. Whenever we click on the start button, we see the lists of programs, folders, etc. This is what people call the Start Menu. From the start menu we can select programs, folders, and other places where we can perform different activities.

We can open the Microsoft Office Program by clicking, Start button, All Programs, Microsoft Office, then click any office program you need. But this can work only if you have installed the Microsoft Office suite on your PC.

The PCs which have Windows Operating System, ready installed, have the basic Application Programs such as Notepad, WordPad and Paint. We can open them Through: Start button, All Programs, Accessories, and lastly, click any one among these three programs.
