Input Devices

A computer keyboard.

Input devices are the computer devices that are used for entering data or information in the computer. The most common Input Devices include Keyboard, Microphone, Scanners, Mice (Plural for Mouse) Digital Cameras and Joysticks.

Keyboard

The keyboard is the device designed for entering data or sending command to the computer. Keyboards have buttons/keys which are labeled to help us determine their uses and functionalities. The keyboard keys are numbers, symbols, and commands keys that we need to click on in order to accomplish a certain task. By using the keyboard we can enter any number or alphabet value on the screen as there are keys labeled with Alphabets (A-Z) and Number keys (0-9).

There are also keys on the keyboard designed for sending command to the system and they are usually used in pair. They include Ctrl (control), Shift, Esc (Escape) Enter, Page Up, Page, Number Lock, Caps Lock and so many others.

Mouse

This is the device that is used for interacting with items on the computer screen. We use it primarily for pointing or selecting things on the screen, and on top of that, the mouse can also be used as an input device, enabling us in drawing graphics, etc.

The Computer mice come in different designs and appearance in the market throughout the world. Some have three buttons while others have only two. The mouse has the left, right and scroll buttons.

Scanner

The scanner is the machine that uses image optics to scan images, text and graphics or objects and converts them into digital pictures or images.

Microphone

This is the device that takes or records all kinds of sounds and converts them to be used or stored on the computer. The microphones are commonly used by the Entertainers such as Artists, Music Producers, Deejays, Masters of the Ceremonies (MCs) and other related areas.
