What is a file?

What is a file?

What is a file?

The file is the collection of data or information created and or stored under the specific program in the computer hard disk. The file can contain sound, video, picture/image/photo, text or other types of data, and it is stored in the computer hard disks or any other type of data storage devices under certain Application software and name.

When you open Microsoft word and type any kind of the document, you are really creating a file under Microsoft Word Program. This means that whenever you want to create a file, you have to think about two or three things, that is; “What kind of information do you want to create? Which program is special for creating that kind of information?“

When opened, a file can look very much like a text document or a picture that you might find on someone's desk or in a filing cabinet. On your computer, files are represented with small pictures technically known as icons; which makes it easy to recognize a type of file by looking at its icon.
